Borey Advanced and ASMPT are committed to achieving net-zero emissions.
2025-08-14
As an innovation and market leader in surface-mount and semiconductor manufacturing technologies—and a founding member of the Semiconductor Climate Coalition (SCC—ASMPT has officially unveiled its 2035 Climate-Neutral Net-Zero Strategy. Given that reducing greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain requires collaborative efforts among companies, ASMPT’s work within the SCC is critical to driving the successful implementation of this ambitious plan. As an industry leader, ASMPT recognizes its unique responsibility to spearhead and actively encourage other companies in the semiconductor sector to join the sustainability journey."
Richard Ooi, ASMPT’s Global Head of ESG, stated: “ASMPT is fully committed to supporting the SCC’s mission by leveraging the resources and expertise of its member organizations to tackle climate change and reduce harmful gas emissions.” “The Scope 2 Emissions Working Group, which I lead within the SCC, is focused on integrating low-carbon energy solutions across the semiconductor value chain and is currently developing a set of concrete action plans. We aim to rally the entire industry behind a unified effort to drive meaningful, large-scale transformation that delivers real-world impact.” The SCC was established in collaboration with other companies from the semiconductor value chain, as well as SEMI, the global industry association representing the electronics manufacturing and design supply chain.
By 2035, ASMPT will achieve net-zero emissions for Scope 1 and Scope 2.
The strategic goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2035 applies not only to direct emissions from our own operations (Scope 1) but also includes indirect emissions from purchased energy (Scope 2). As for the broader Scope 3 emissions—those stemming from activities across the entire supply chain—addressing them will require deeper collaboration among various sectors and industries. Scope 3 encompasses emissions generated through purchased goods and services, customer use of products, and pollutant releases during the transportation of goods. To foster stronger cross-industry cooperation, ASMPT, as one of its founding members, has played a pivotal role in launching the SCC initiative. Richard Ooi further explained: "We are helping to develop a shared blueprint for low-carbon energy solutions and supporting the entire value chain in adopting and implementing these systems. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that all SCC members achieve net-zero emissions under Scope 2 by 2050—or even sooner. This is also a critical component of our strategy to reduce Scope 3 emissions, as we remain committed to promoting the use of low-carbon energy among both our suppliers and customers."
The "Environmental" (E) aspect of ESG
ESG standards are used to implement and evaluate sustainability initiatives related to "Environment, Social, and Governance." ESG has significantly influenced ASMPT’s culture, human resources policies, business strategies, and operational workflows. To address environmental challenges, ASMPT has already rolled out a series of measures, including initiatives in Scope 2 and Scope 3 categories, and has publicly committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2035. "As an innovation and market leader in the electronics manufacturing and semiconductor industries, we have a unique opportunity to take the lead in the ESG space. We’re dedicated to collaborating with our customers, partners, industry associations, and employees to drive positive change together," said Richard Ooi.
