Borey Advanced ASMPT triggers SMT production line loading program for PCB

As a market and technology leader in the global semiconductor and electronic manufacturing industry, ASMPT has made significant progress in the automatic product switching process on SMT production lines.

WORKS Operations is a part of the WORKS software suite, and its automatic program change function has been upgraded by integrating key new features, significantly improving performance. In addition to triggering automatic program changes through family settings, its latest version further implements the application of automatic program change function in cross line material loading settings.

The automatic program change feature has been proven to be a revolutionary innovation, "said Thomas Marktscheffel, Director of Software Solutions Product Management at ASMPT SMT Solutions." Customer feedback shows that this feature reduces loading time by up to 35% and significantly lowers the cost of non-conforming products

In the past, switching between each product required manual loading of new assembly programs on each machine, which was not only time-consuming but also prone to errors. Nowadays, when the first PCB of each batch enters the production line, the machine can automatically complete the program replacement. The latest version has achieved seamless integration of product switching, and the machine will prompt the operator to replace the steel mesh or material cart at the best time. Even in complex small-scale and multi variety production environments, this intelligent function can effectively optimize the product switching process and lay the foundation for subsequent automation operations such as automatic replacement of material carts.

Industry standard data transmission

The automatic program change and its latest improvements are based on the IPC-HERMES-9852 standard protocol network construction, which ensures seamless data transmission according to the latest industry standards.

In specific implementation, the system transmits the necessary information of each new circuit board to the first equipment on the production line (usually a solder paste printing machine) through barcode scanning or IPC-HERMES-9852 digital interface. When the device recognizes a change in product batch, it will automatically trigger the loading process of the corresponding assembly program. As the circuit board circulates in the production line, the IPC-HERMES-9852 data it carries will be synchronously transmitted to subsequent devices.

Based on this architecture, each workstation (regardless of equipment supplier) can independently complete program changes when needed. The system also achieves automatic adjustment of transmission tracks through open standard interfaces, which can automatically adapt to different specifications of circuit board widths without being limited by equipment manufacturers. Through the family settings function, product switching can be achieved without the need for operator intervention.

Quick and error free product switching

For electronic product manufacturers, the optional program change feature integrated with WORKS Operations brings multiple advantages: by deploying a barcode scanner at the beginning of the production line, products can be quickly switched, ensuring that the production line always operates efficiently without the need to pause operations due to product replacement. In addition, automatic program changes can effectively free up operators and reduce the generation of waste caused by manual download errors.

Thomas Marktscheffel further added, "By adopting automatic program changes during loading, we can sustainably deepen our ASMPT smart factory concept. Our goal is to help the electronics manufacturing industry improve production capacity, adaptability, and efficiency through standardized interfaces and comprehensive integration of data resources.
